Michigan Gambling Revenues Continue to Soar

Michigan online gambling revenues show no signs of slowing down in 2025 as the state's commercial and tribal operators reported a total of $331.2 million in iGaming and sports betting gross receipts for January – a 25.4% increase over December.

Breaking Down Receipts

The amount of $331.2 million represents the total receipts for both iGaming and online sports betting in Michigan, but as you look deeper into the numbers you can see that the majority of the receipts come from the state's iGaming companies.

The iGaming gross receipts for January came to a total of $248.2 million, an increase of $4.2 million from December 2024 and a new record for the state. However, the biggest increase came from sports betting receipts, which rose from $20.2 million in December to $83 million in January.

Factoring in the winnings paid to players, the adjusted gross receipts (AGR) totals are a combined $287.9 million, $233.1 million of which came from iGaming with the remaining $54.8 million coming from sports betting. Comparing these numbers to January 2024, the iGaming AGR is up 42%, while the sports betting AGR is up 191%.

Taxes

Such significant growth is good news for the state of Michigan, as it represents an increase in tax revenue. Below, we've broken down the gambling tax revenue collected by Michigan in January:

  • iGaming taxes and fees – $43.7 million
  • Detroit iGaming taxes and fees – $11.8 million
  • Online sports betting taxes and fees – $3.1 million
  • Detroit online sports betting taxes and fees – $1 million
  • Tribal operators' taxes and fees – $5 million

In 2024, the MGCB raised more than $500 million in revenue for good causes throughout the state and is on track to surpass that in 2025.
