In the latest crackdown on illegal iGaming operations, the Michigan Gaming Control Board has issued cease and desist letters to both BetOnline.ag and SportsBetting.ag – two of the most recognizable names in the offshore iGaming industry.
Taking on companies of such size shows the MGCB’s willingness to protect its players from unsafe and unregulated gaming operators.
The MGCB has accused both SportsBetting.ag and BetOnline.ag of illegally accepting wagers from Michigan residents, including on sports, horse racing, politics, casino-style games, and other live events. The companies are said to be in violation of Michigan’s Gaming Control and Revenue Act, Michigan Penal Code, and Lawful Internet Gaming Act. Neither holds a license from the MGCB.
When asked to comment on the latest investigation by the MGCB, Executive Director Henry Williams said, "The Michigan Gaming Control Board is committed to enforcing Michigan’s gaming laws and protecting consumers from illegal gambling," "we encourage residents to only engage with licensed and regulated online platforms for a safe and fair gaming experience."
The investigations are the result of an anonymous tip. If you come across any unlicensed casinos offering real-money gambling to Michigan residents, you can report them by calling 1-888-314-2682 or emailing MiGamblingTip@michigan.gov.
