The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued a cease and desist letter to Duranbah Limited N.V., a Curaçao-based gambling company. The letter posits that Duranbah is offering real money gambling to Michigan residents without a valid gaming license via its MyBookie.ag platform, and has given the company 14 days to cease operations.

MGCB Investigation

This cease and desist letter comes at the end of an investigation carried out by the regulator as part of its battle against unregulated gambling. When asked about the hard work carried out by his team, the executive director of the MGCB, Henry Williams, said, "Our investigation into MyBookie.ag found that their operations were accessible to Michigan citizens, which violates state laws. We are taking strong action to uphold the principles of fair and legal gaming."

The investigation concluded that MyBookie.ag was in violation of three Michigan-state laws by offering real money gambling and accepting online payments:

  • Michigan Penal Code – This statute prohibits the use of money in exchange for a payout in a game of chance.
  • Lawful Internet Gaming Act – Only licensed operators can offer real money gambling in the state, and only those authorized by the MGCB can obtain a license.
  • Michigan Gaming Control Act – Dictates that violating the Lawful Internet Gaming Act is a felony punishable by a $100,000 fine, up to 10 years in prison, or both.

Continued Work

This isn't the first time the MGCB has sprung into action to protect its residents from unlicensed gambling sites. In May 2024, they sent a cease and desist letter to Harp Media B.V., the parent company of Bovada. This action resulted in the company disabling access for Michigan residents, proving the efficacy of the work carried out by the MGCB.
