Following on from its work in January, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued cease and desist letters to nine online casinos, citing violations of state gambling laws. These sites are accused of running online gambling operations that offer real money gambling in Michigan without a license from the MGCB.
The list of sites that have received a cease and desist from the MGCB is as follows:
Each of these sites has been found to be in violation of Michigan gaming laws by operating without a valid license, including the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, and the Michigan Penal Code.
Each of these sites has 14 days to respond to the letter and cease operations in Michigan. The MGCB will work closely with the Michigan Attorney General's Office to continue legal action against sites which do not comply with the letter.
The aim of such legal action is to protect Michigan residents from unregulated gambling activities. When asked for comment, MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said, "These unlicensed operators are not only in violation of Michigan’s laws but also pose significant risks to consumers by offering limited and often unreliable withdrawal options. Our role is to protect Michigan residents by ensuring that all online gambling activities are carried out legally and responsibly."
